Sendero Verde

Project Highlight:

Because the building sits next to the elevated Metro-North train tracks, the architects used its high-performance Passive House shell as a massive noise barrier. The combination of thick, airtight insulation and triple-paned windows makes it reportedly quieter inside the apartments than a library — even when a train rumbles by just a few feet away.

MEP by Cosentini, Sendero Verde in East Harlem is the world's largest fully affordable Passive House development, consisting of three buildings providing 709 energy-efficient apartments. The complex achieves a 60–70% reduction in energy use through an airtight envelope and triple-paned windows, while hosting a charter school and community health clinic centered around a public courtyard connecting residents to essential on-site services.
